Important New Law Regarding Carbon Monoxide Detectors – Yes, This Affects YOU Too!

It seems that very few people know about this new law that just came into effect recently, so I am spreading the news. As of July 1, 2011 ALL single family residences in California MUST have carbon monoxide detectors if the home has a fireplace, an attached garage, and/or any gas or oil burning appliances, which is pretty much every single family home in California. This includes dwellings from 1-4 units. When I say ALL, I mean ALL. It doesn’t matter if it is your home or a rental home. EVERY home and 1-4 unit dwelling must have carbon monoxide detectors. Homeowners who fail to install the devices can receive a maximum fine of $200 for each offense. These detectors must carry the state fire marshal’s seal of approval. And, they must be installed on each level of the home.
